What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding (also called tooth bonding) uses a durable substance known as composite resin to address cosmetic issues and dental damage, including:

  • Misshapen teeth
  • Chips, fractures, or cracks
  • Gaps
  • Discoloration, intrinsic stains, and white spots
  • Cavities
  • Worn or thinning tooth enamel

Our Villa Rica dentist expertly color-matches and shapes the resin to complement your surrounding teeth and overall aesthetic. Whether she’s treating a cavity or a chipped tooth, Dr. Stacey can help you get a healthy, functional, and aesthetically-pleasing grin with composite dental bonding.

Why choose dental bonding as a cosmetic treatment?

Occasionally, patients may not be able to enhance their smiles with certain cosmetic solutions. For example, teeth bleaching may not be a suitable option for patients with thinning tooth enamel or internal dental stains. Or perhaps the cost of orthodontia is too high to merit fixing teeth that are only slightly crooked.

With dental bonding, however, patients have a cost-effective, safe, and beneficial way to improve the appearance of their smiles while fortifying areas of weakness. In fact, this versatile treatment can treat cavities, reduce tooth sensitivity, fix minor alignment issues, and even hide the most stubborn stains! And, with the proper care, tooth bonding can last for at least a decade.

What is the tooth bonding procedure like?

First, Dr. Stacey administers a local anesthesia to the treatment area before removing a very small amount of dental enamel. Removing some dental enamel creates a rough surface on the teeth, which allows the composite resin to attach more securely.

Next, Dr. Stacey color-matches the composite resin to the natural shade of your smile. Once Dr. Stacey achieves your perfect shade, she applies the resin directly to the teeth. She then molds the resin around the surface of the teeth before using a special lamp to cure it into place.

After the composite resin is finished curing, Dr. Stacey assesses the look and feel of the cured resin. If necessary, she may smooth out any rough or high areas in the resin to make it feel as natural as possible. Once you and Dr. Stacey achieve your desired look and feel, you are free to eat, speak, and smile with complete confidence!
